Castor Oil has all sorts of uses; but most recently has been noted for its abilities to encourage growth of hair, eyelashes, and even eyebrows! So the pressing question that everyone wants to know is: Why Castor Oil?
Castor Oil has Omega-9 Fatty Acids that nourish your hair and it's follicles. It has both anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that fight against dandruff and scalp infections. It is also packed with minerals, proteins and vitamin E.
So now that you know why Castor Oil is beneficial, the even bigger question is: How should it be applied? As a treatment for the hair, I have found that the best way to effectively use Castor oil is to apply it directly to the scalp, parting and sectioning the hair if necessary. Once it has been applied, massage it into the scalp. Place a plastic cap over the head and allow to sit for about 45 minutes to an hour. It is not necessary to use heat, but definitely wont hurt. If you decide to use heat however, beware of running and dripping. After sitting, shampoo and condition the hair as normal.
For eyelashes and eyebrows, apply castor oil using a q-tip or brush applicator before bed and follow your normal facial routine the following morning. Over time, you should notice thicker, fuller hair and possibly growth in previously desperate areas.
Something that is very important to note is that there is no magic cure to reverse hereditary thinning or medical diagnosis such as alopecia. It is important to determine what is causing your hair loss in order to choose the effective method of treatment. If you are unsure please see a dermatologist or licensed hair professional.
